WORLD OCEAN WEEK

This week is dedicated to WORLD OCEAN WEEK. Why not? it should be at least everyday especially if your lives and livehood is connected to water and all bodies of water. For those who love the seafood for their everyday meals must at least pay attention and be of concern of the local ocean that's diminishing of its school of fish, and other marine animals and those savory seafoods. Not too many of them as if they are into extinction level. There's no overfishing in Canada. Well not that I know of. Sports fishing has been put on hold for just "seasonal" and but because you have a license to fish you can go fishing and catch the fish that you like. Restrictions overwhelming. You don't have a choice anymore. Most of all sometimes you end up with no catch at all just wasted gas and wasted effort and patience lost as in hours and hours of waiting for nothing. Where all the fish? That's right! Where?

Vast wide open space of deep blue sea.. with no fish. Where the hell are they hiding? Well that happened to my husband and his brother-in law who came home without a catch, 3 1/2 years ago. They caught dogfish. We don't eat dogfish.

Maybe the salmons are just for fish ponds. They are no longer free swimmers in the ocean. With all the ferry, boats and cruise ships sailing at the Discovery Passage, at the bay simply the on going busy water flow is unsafe for those schools of fish to thrive.

In other countries, coral reefs are dying because the temperature of water is rising. Once this monumental effect of rising temperature then you'll know the marine living things at the bottom will slowly die. Most of the coral reefs are just not plants they are live breathing sea creatures that need oxygen. The coral reefs are the natural habitats for most fish of all kinds, for the crustaceans to hide from the their old preys and predators larger and vicious than them. Coral reefs sometimes not only offer as safe harbour or shelter but as the source of the sea creatures oxygen. Believe it or not coral reefs the anchor for their safe haven.

Modern reefs are in place down there at the bottom of the ocean due to the loss of natural habitat. Have you heard of old ships being used as reef  for the sea creatures to thrive? I hope those modern habitat are helpful and beneficial.

As a pledge, would eat only one fish per week. Once a week with shrimps and or prawns. Crabs? Maybe just once in 3 months or 6 months. Lobsters? maybe never unless if there's a bargain or discounted lobsters at Superstore or Walmart. Squid -  seldom I buy squid because I'm the only one who eats squid at home. What am missing lately are mussels, oysters and clams. truth is I'm happy with seafood for a meal more than with pork, beef or lamb.

LOVE THE OCEAN. Keep it clean, safe and protect them from predators.
