The Enchanted Island

I think it's the awful weather temperature that's bothering me right now. It's hot and cold suddenly the temperature varies alternately like crazy, now I have colds. I first thought spring time is upon us already and then it's cold again. What the hell is happening?

Living in the island surrounded by cold water and sometimes snow at winter time then hot sunny sunshine during spring and summer time, incredible hot at summer when electric fan or aircon is of no help actually because there's no cool breeze passing through the window. At summer time, the island is strangely more like an island anchored to the Pacific. LOL. Is that hilarious? The island feels like a Hawaiian island. Who knows it could be once an island in Hawaii. Maybe we are duped or fooled to believe that this island is Canadian island. Dude on the other part of the island is already California and part of Philippines. Aahhahaha. How that happened? Stranger things? Ghost island?

When I first arrived here in Canada in 1992, the island boasted about its hot spring and some palm trees on other part of the island and I happened to see an old tree, probably 500 years old or maybe 300 year old tree base on its trunk's wide measurement. Wow! At the time of Magellan? Very interesting.  It's hard to believe that a tropical southeast asian (Malay) tree would live for such a long, long time time in that area.  Uhm, that is so weird. I wish that the owner of that land wont cut it down. The old tree was situated on the hilly part of the island facing the Pacific ocean. No wonder. For somebody not to believe me about a tropical tree is not suitable to live or impossible to grow in this island is insane. How could a 300-500 year tropical tree can live longer in this 4 season-island? A tree native to Philippines and other asian countries can live that long? There must be a special story to the one who planted that tree in this island. I can't tell you the island because I don't like that tree cut off. (You know that the old monkey tree that was over 50 years old that I admire? Somebody cut it down). I want to return to that place so that I can take photographs of such remarkable tree, almost a legend and its legendary life. The hot spring? Where is it now? After 1995, the hot spring vanished! That could be the legendary hot spring where former President Roosevelt stayed to rejuvenate.

There's that anahaw (tropical palm tree) that is native to Florida and Philippines that our neighbor had in their yard is one evidence that you can plant tropical plants in Canada. Then the hibiscus plant that was in front of the house where we lived and stayed for more than a year. The hibiscus probably 10 years old. How about the many tropical plants in Butchart Garden? So many tropical plants there.

Okay, there are islanders who would like a winter atmosphere in this island. Only few inhabitants who would like the island as a tropical island. Nobody likes a volcanic island. Maybe you could live in island with volcanoes which are already dormant or extinct, yeah somewhere in Hawaii.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Hope you found a 4 leaf clover. Can't find a good tree? Just settle for a tree worth deserving of your personality.
