I've been watching YOU TUBE videos of those foreigners who traveled to Philippines and most of them found BGC or Bonifacio Global City as the City of the Future!
Let's borrow You Tube video/images: THANKS!
Google/You Tube video/ images GONDOLA RIDE in BGC VENICE
WOW! That's wow!! Really? BONIFACIO is actually FORT BONIFACIO which was formerly the Fort William MacKinley, a military base after the great revolution Spanish/American/Filipino War. Then it became the Home Of The Philippine Army. My family lived there, my parents, with my siblings and with my grandmother, dog Hunter, Mutley & Tiger the cat. We also had our aunt and uncle and their children at the back of our home, I mean at the extended house. We were able to manage to have space for trees and vegetable garden and a small pond for tilapia. We live in harmony in a very frugal ways. My father was a soldier/Red Cross Medic and my mother as a civilian nurse, later on worked as civilian clerk for the Chief Nurse in the Army General Hospital. That ancient Hospital was built in 1912 during the American era and was still visible in the year 2000. After that...fast-speed development of the military base into an exquisite, shopping malls, arcade, tourist belts, pubs and restaurants, condominiums and apartments and modern infrastructure were built, excluding the American Cemetery, & Libingan Ng Mga Bayani & Forbes Park.
Year 2010 (?) that AGH or that Historic Hospital was replaced with "Saint Luke's Hospital. Or is it? You wont believe that the Army Base was replaced with high-rised condominiums or skyscrapers where only the wealthy can afford. It turned into flashy Venice, Italy inspired atmosphere, where you can also ride the gondola. The only thing is the buildings are clean easy on the eye, the water is clear and the language is different.
Well, I'm glad that the street where our old house stands still not being part of the BGC even if its just a walking distance to that "Future City" as what foreigners said. From what I heard, or rumor mill that the BGC was owned by "foreign multinationals esp. the S. Koreans!!" WTH! LOL. How that happened? O-M-G! That's probably result of those Filipinos who love watching Korean-Drama series being hypnotized by the crying scenes. To tell you the truth, I was surprised too when I happened to watch a TV Series in Philippines and I kept watching it during my one month vacation there in 2005. It turned out those cute actors in that drama series were Koreans speaking Tagalog (dubbed).
Then those American tourists who are asking why not too many people at the malls. It's because most Filipinos are at work and in schools and only during the night they spend shopping or when the sun goes down because of hot climate and high humidity. Shopping malls are crowded on Saturdays & Sundays and during the Holidays. Besides, if the "Italian Theme" added to the Venice lifestyle in BGC, as what the Italians are known for, afternoon is siesta time and happy hour starts at 4 pm.
I can't believe how inexpensive the clothes at Market.Market. Unbelievable. There is nothing like that here in Canada. P100 for a nice cotton T-shirt is superbly affordable as you might want to buy 2 dozens of them in different colors. The clothes that you can only buy in Hong Kong and Korea are also visible in those stores and much, much cheaper than the clothes here in Canada. Walmart's George and Joe Fresh should start importing clothes and accessories from Philippines. Why? Because the clothes in Philippines are trendy, modern, not old fashioned. But you know what? I prefer the Divisoria for beautiful textiles. Gusto kong makipaghaggle for prices, ha ha ha! Hanap ako ng makakaaway ko sa haggling. LOL
One Chinese critic vlogger thought Filipinos are social climber! Really? I don't know about it. In my own opinion, everywhere you go, in every country you travel here and there, even in your circle of friends there is somebody who is a social climber. Just look at what the social media had done to you...lol. It's more like everybody lives in a make-believe mansion and everybody in your group are super rich and everybody has lots of money. Maybe they are. Because here in Canada... humans who have lots of money are the politicians, the corporate ass, the smugglers, the drug cartels!
Oh well, here I go again being a critic. Sorry.
