Long time ago, CONNECTION is the fastest, easiest way to acquire employment. However, "guilty by association" can lead to unemployment.
Long time ago... references are part of the requirement in applying for a job. Nowadays, it's better to apply with the conviction that you are applying for that job because you are qualified for the job. However, being over-qualified is not a sure thing to being accepted in the workforce. I don't know the true essence why and how an employer will accept a worker in this new generation of millennials. It depends upon the qualification and job openings or job vacancy if there's any.
Most of the time, the newly graduates accepted work based on voluntary basis. Volunteer. Being a volunteer, working without pay. In few peculiar situation it's the newly grads without work experience paying the company to gain access to work to that company provided that they will gain extra knowledge and extra experience that will benefit them. It would only be through a long thread or process.
String theory. You can be employed maybe, provided that you are a genius and your God-given knowledge will ultimately benefit their cause. As in, you are like the Einstein of this Millennium era. Or perhaps you are the new modern Watson. Whatever!
Perhaps you are a grad of prestigious university, that too will help you land a job but with the many upstarts and burgouise inside the workplace where to turn to? Work according to the job category or description being asked for you to achieve the goal and socialization comes second. Work with confidence and obey the boss not your co-worker for they have their own job description, follow the code of ethics in the workplace and mind your own business as much possible stay away from gossip and gossiping. Respect elders or old people, respect your boss and respect yourself.
I don't know if you follow the television series THE GOOD DOCTOR. Although, Dr. Murphy was assigned by Dr. Han to the Pathology Department of the Hospital, working efficiently and has helped the surgeons in the operating room when he was asked the correct procedure about certain delicate operation on a giant tumor ( Dunno how that patient had that humongous tumor on his stomach and how that tumor the size of a baby elephant got stuck on his body is beyond me. Why they didn't have the operation when the tumor was the size of a ball? Real strange! Of course that's fiction). Murphy was upset that he can't use scalpel and his dream of becoming a surgeon is futile. He went to talk to Dr. Han after the operation is finished and he told him he wants to be a surgeon instead. Dr. Han informed him of the benefit of being a pathologist which is his expertise or specialization as he has the vision of an electron microscope. He can see minute details of internal organs from its veins to how the blood flows through the arteries and other parts of the human vital organs (human anatomy). Dr. Han is just an ordinary surgeon with limitations and Dr. Murphy is best suited to something microscopic. Dr. Murphy insisted on his own opinion, yelling and almost about to breakdown and Dr. Han told him that he'll call the security or be fired from work. Darn! Insubordination? Do you think a chief surgeon has that power over another surgeon to replace and demote another surgeon? Well. Dr. Murphy is a resident surgeon, not a surgeon with vast amount of experience in the O. R. Who is the scriptwriter? Who are we to contradict the script and the will of the story and the director. We are just TV viewers. We just have to be patient and watch for the continuation of the breaking points, breaking moments on how Dr. Murphy can fight the struggle of superiority complex in the workplace. Maybe if he was not labeled as such, if he is not autistic, and autism is not a factor to the demotion. Actually in fairness to the world of Modern Science, Pathology is of greater importance in the scientific study of organisms, minute as it is, microscopic and that deals with research and finding the cause of ailments and disease and how doctors and surgeons can better perfect their skills in surgery, operations and the treatment of disease through the help of pathologists. Surgeons can't do their job properly without asking first and foremost the pathologist, med-tech, x-ray technician on how the proper procedure would be at the operating room. Surgeons knew their job but it depends on the result of biopsy test whether a surgery is necessary.

Being autistic that he is, he bypassed the older well experienced surgeons and that also the cause of the "so called demotion." Maybe it's better for Dr. Murphy to just follow his guts and just work on Pathology Department in the same hospital. Dr. Han is played by Daniel Dae Kim and he is also one of the executive producers of THE GOOD DOCTOR. Acting experience? Daniel was one of the lead actors in the TV series Hawaii Five-O. Why he left Hawaii Five-O? Do you like Murphy leaving The Good Doctor series? lol

The stigma of AUTISM can lead to troubles in the workplace or it just happened that it's a factor leading to a label hard to erase. It is the mental challenge on both normal and the not normal maybe the superhumans got something to add in that kind of "tenacity" egocentric of human lives. The autistics can see what you can't see and they can hear what you can't hear. They can see vital cues. Darn we all should be clueless instead. As I said, follow and obey the boss who is older than you. Be respectful of the superior, well experienced workers in the workplace. Learn from them and learn from their techniques. I know you'll benefit from the skills they are willing to teach you. Learn to compromise.
