The TRAGIC INCIDENT in VANCOUVER FILIPINO LAPU-LAPU Cultural Festival just opened up so many fresh memories of the many racism and prejudice that happened against minorities, people of colors, the Filipinos included and that's what happened to my son. I first thought I could just erase such memory of him being harassed at the Sky Train and at where he was staying at the time when he started his studies in AIV.
My son is not dark skin in complexion. So it's not a matter of skin color. I don't know what it is why he became a target?
My son graduated in High School with scholarship grant, he has the BC Skills to get into AIV. He is not into violence, he loves the Arts and Technology. He was only 16 going 17 years of age, younger than those men at the condominium where he was staying with older men as his room mates. They were not Canadian White, I think they are " " from Mid-Eastern countries or they could be P or EI? I don't know for sure. My husband should have asked them information of who they are. There was one boy who was probably a Canadian born, he's White but too timid and quiet kind of aloof. He was my son's room mate. The rest of those older men occupied the 2 bedrooms condo as somewhat their own. They were territorial. Husband paid for the whole semester at AIV and rental occupancy in that condominium at AIV. However, my son was being harassed every time. At the Sky Train same thing he was being targeted for what?
I know, my son's so cute! He kind of a look-alike of the actor Max Thieriot of SEAL TEAM. You think that's a brag? That probably why he is being questioned most of the time.
Well, he is not MAX THERIOT, ok?
There are many accidents and incidents wherein so many of these were not reported or just that some people keep their mouth shut, keep silent or just afraid of consequences. It was not long ago when a young man, a bus passenger was stabbed by unknown assailant in Vancouver. All of a sudden without warning suddenly got stabbed by a stranger. The people inside the bus was helpless cannot stop or had prevented what happened. The paramedic arrived and the young man was taken to the hospital to save his life. However, for whatever reason the paramedic had to rush him to another hospital! FGS! He end up dead! What can you say about that? Is that fair? I cried with the parents of that young boy who was innocently been taken away for what?
The tragic situation that happened in the Lapu-Lapu Festival was sort of "awakening" of how lives you cared about will suddenly taken away from you...it could happen to you.
BC Premier David Eby at least who is vocal about justice will prevail and justice will be done accordingly.
