Third week of Spring season and the possibility of having sunny warm weather is favorable today. More cherry blossoms and magnolias blooming in abundance, daffodils and colorful tulips sprouting out like crazy in the yard together with the heather and violas. Rounds of robins, ravens and eagles...and my friend had picked up a smooth feather that had fallen n the ground. Just one feather from a raven or eagle? Don't really know but from the look of it you can use it as a pen. I mean back in the medieval period when you can insert ink through its tube.
Maybe that feather was from a raven. There was a homing raven at the backyard's spruce tree. The eagles most of the time nesting on douglas fir trees somewhere along the South Island H-way on a seaview. That's how they are viewing the sea that maybe they love to catch salmons instead of rodents from the forest. The eagles here in Canada are big measuring up to 10 ft. when their wings are spread.
Crows, chickadees, seagulls, starlings are frequently been seen in Canadian yards. Hummingbirds only visit your yard if you have berry vineyards such as blueberry, blackberry and raspberry. Hm, maybe they are into the grapevines too.
To attract more hummingbirds closer to your home, you must set a hanging branch or twig from a berry plant attached to the source of "sweet nectar in a flask"You wont believe how tiny bird this hummingbird. It is just about 2 inches but they have too much energy to flap their wings in a flash.
Humming bird the one above is almost territorial. She only wants the source of sweets to herself. If another hummingbird came to her territory she will chase that other hummingbird crazy and guarding her spot with all her might. Yup, small but terrible!
Sometimes, she 's on top of the other vine while she watched carefully the group of hummingbirds on the lilac shrub at the neighbor's yard. She is a keen observant.
But then most of the time the hummingbird hides in a camouflage way through the bushes while she keeps watching the flask of sweets yards away from the prey.
Hummingbirds are very smart bird.
We sometimes play hide & seek in the yard. When I'm standing outside above me is the spot for the hummingbird's flask, she'll flap her wings nonstop like a motor sound of a roaring razor blades from above. You'll have goosebumps.
Next time would like to capture the woodpecker for my photograph ops.. LOL.
