It was year 2005 when I went to Philippines for a month's vacation. I went shopping in Landmark and Shoemart, their supermarkets boast about imported goods from Canada. I was surprised beyond surprise that their produce, frozen foods, dairy products, juice, pizza in boxes and fries and other canned foods are from Canada. Wow! It's amazing! The Filipino consumers valued products from Canada as shown from those famous supermarkets. Landmark, Rustan's and Shoemart are big box stores or they are the super mega malls in promoting goods of all kinds whether they are imported or not and to have seen so much of the products were from Canada gave this country the edge in best quality production for consumers. There are hundred millions of Filipinos in Philippines that commercialism of Canadian products take a great pride knowing hey, Canada got these people from Philippines who value "made from Canada." yey!
Fortunately, people from Philippines do not need extra tax on anything whether they are clothing, furniture, electronics, no food tax, nothing except for V.A.T. Teka may VAT pa ba sa Pinas? You have to be thankful that you Filipinos do not need to pay tax. Since at the time that Dr. Jose P. Rizal sacrificed his life. When The Spaniards and its government were thrown away during the Spanish-American war, Philippines became the non-taxable country. Up to now walang binabayarang tax ang mga Filipinos except property tax if they are house-owners or income tax if their income is taxable however due to big family with many children wala ring bayarang tax. So sino lang ang mga nagbabayad ng tax? Mostly business owners lang ay yung mga mayayaman. Mga buisness.
Year 2019. Suddenly, Filipinos, most especially the Philippine President Duterte who was pissed off and wants to declare war against Canada because of those plastics or garbage that were in those cargo containers. Ghee, As I said before that Canada has its own landfill and the garbage here are "processed scientifically" in Canada's own landfill. To think that it will take 3 months for cargo ship to deliver those garbage containers in Philippines? What the hell are they thinking? Hell raising? Uhm, baka may sequel ulit ang Hellraiser, abangan...
The Smokey Mountain landfill for garbage and other form of waste was closed and shutdown for good and I think it was now a multi-housing facility. ? What could be? I don't know if the landfill somewhere in Luzon is also closed down for business or there is another landfill where? Somebody should investigate.
Plastic bags. The problem with cheap plastic bags from supermarket. We, the consumers from Canada pays 5 cents per bag for the disposal of such bag in supermarkets after its usage/purpose. Every product has corresponding price tag plus PST (Provincial Sales Tax) and GST (Government Sales Tax) for every commodity bought in stores anywhere, everywhere in Canada. Even the millions of tourists who visited and bought products from Canada have to pay those taxes and have to pay 5 cents per grocery bag. If those millions of tourists brought those bags with them to their country of origin and destination and disposed them in their garbage bins do you think Canada should take those garbage containers? How about those plastic bags of non-perishable food/canned goods especially those boxes of wheat pasta products, flour, sugar that were donated by Canadians to those victims of flood? Do you think Canadians should take their plastic bags from the recipients after they consumed the food or after use of its product? You can do better than that.
I'm a Filipina and I live here in Canada. I know how Environment Canada deals with garbage waste and I know how Canadians maintain their country to be one of the most smartest, peace-loving, orderly, cleanest, safest country in the world. Do you know how many millions of dollars that Canada had donated during the flood and other disaster and calamities in Philippines? You wont be able to repay those millions of dollars.
I was in High School, year 1979 when I read about a massive dumping of fresh produce of vegetables and fruits (mostly apples) in the ocean. The impoverished people who are business-minded of course thought that was great because they can avail of such fruits and sell them in their market. Long and behold, those fresh produce were actually surplus of a good harvest "from this country" and the recipients are mostly whales, dolphins and sharks. The dolphins love apples and lettuce. Some big fishes in the ocean love fruits and they are part of their food chain. These marine mammals value the healthy diet of such magnanimous proportions. Nowadays, I think the humans thought other countries would benefit from such donations of fresh produce. However, it has a different outcome. So what do you think? Give those sea creatures the fresh agricultural produce instead of giving them to humans from other countries? Animals would benefit from those non-perishable food. Canada have too many forest animals who need those surplus of food. Maybe those animals will be more thankful and humble.
Yung mga Malays nagkocomplain din sa basura from Canada. ha ha! Gusto mong patulan? O baka duck, cover and hold lang ang strategy dito. Baka nasa utak nila mill kaya ganun. Or maybe gusto nila meron ulit mag ala Jose Rizal to save them from multiple taxes. Whatever! Luma na kasi itong news na ito. Kung sino ang mastermind dito sa garbage news na ito dapat ipako sa krus. Nakakaimbierna na kasi. Paulit-ulit.
